The Upper Roadway Canopy, Phase II project was an innovative solution to protect the passengers arriving at the airport from the elements. The project involved the erection of a new structural framework, composed of steel pipe ranging in sizes between 20” to 28” in diameter, across the front of the airport. The new canopy was erected much closer to the roadway, introduced tensile fabric structures spanning the roadway, and extended the use of space frame at the new lower level.
Although many of the components of the project were shop fabricated and assembled on the site, much of the fabrication was done in the field and fit in place. The tensile fabric was fabricated completely in the shop and shipped to the job site for installation. |
