Mike the Tiger Habitat
Louisiana State University
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
$2,900,000

The tiger habitat is 15,000 square feet of lush planting, including a 20' Live Oak tree, a waterfall, and a stream evolving from a rocky backdrop overflowing with plants and trees. The stream is a swimming pond which allows underwater views of Mike the Tiger swimming.

This project also included construction of a sixty foot tower, a finely woven stainless steel mesh spanning the arches, a woven stainless steel mesh top added for additional protection for Mike the TIger, and a climate controlled night house which provides protection for the tiger at night and during inclement weather, and multiple areas for the caretaker to prepare food and other items.

This new habitat, which features state-of-the-art technologies, research, conservation and husbandry programs, as well as education, interpretive and recreational activities, has been deemed in essence one of the larger and finest tiger habitats in the United States.
